PM Shehbaz to talk about CPEC on his first trip to China today

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he would talk with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang about reviving the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) during his two-day official visit to China.

The official Twitter account for the prime minister says that he will leave for Beijing today. He is one of the first leaders to go to the neighboring country after the critical 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), where Xi Jinping was elected as the party’s general secretary.

This will be the first time the prime minister has been to China since he took office in April 2022. Last month, he met with President Xi in Uzbekistan.

Shehbaz liked this “honor” and that Pakistan and China stayed friends and worked together even when things were hard.

The prime minister said that his talks with the top leaders of China would be about “revitalizing CPEC” and other vital issues.

Shehbaz wrote on Twitter that the second phase of CPEC “promises to usher in a new era of social and economic progress that will improve the lives of our people.”

He also said the “Chinese economic miracle” had taught Pakistan a lot.

At the first steering committee meeting of the Pakistan-China Business and Investment Forum (PCBIF), PM Shehbaz said he was looking forward to meeting the Chinese leadership for a series of “productive and fruitful meetings” to improve business, strategic, and people-to-people relations.

He said that Pakistan needed to follow the Chinese model of development if it wanted to keep making progress and getting rich. He also said it was essential to making it easy for businesses to work together.

“Let’s work together and move forward to make a win-win situation for Chinese and Pakistani businesspeople and investors,” he said, calling for Pakistan to make it easier to do business with China.

The prime minister called CPEC a “game-changer” and talked about how the flagship program of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) helped Pakistan end its prolonged power outages.

He emphasized that China’s labor-intensive industries should move to Pakistan to take advantage of the cheap labor there. He said this would be a win-win situation for business owners in both countries.

He praised the work that Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong had done to strengthen relations between Pakistan and China in many different ways.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said that Shehbaz also met with the Chinese ambassador Nong and talked to him about different things before going to China.

The Prime Minister’s Office also said a high-level delegation would accompany the prime minister’s trip to China. It said, “During his stay, the prime minister will meet with President Xi Jinping and talk with Premier Li Keqiang as part of a delegation.”

“The visit is also expected to move forward the broad bilateral cooperation agenda by signing a number of MoUs and agreements in different areas, and to keep the momentum of CPEC cooperation going after the 11th meeting of the CPEC Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on October 27, 2022,” the statement said.
