Web Desk(LTN News): Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, won the toss and decided to bat against Pakistan on Saturday in Christchurch’s second Twenty20 tri-series game.
With opener Mohammad Rizwan scoring an unbeaten 78, Pakistan played the exact same side that defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs at the same Hagley Oval venue on Friday to start the series.
The three sides are competing in the seven-day competition as practice for the T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia later this month.
Williamson admitted that he didn’t base his choice to bat first on much of the first game.
It was a daytime game. We’ll try to use the surface first as night games have a few different characteristics, he said.
Daryl Mitchell, a key all-rounder for the Black Caps, sustained a fractured finger during practice on Friday, which ended his chances of playing in the World Cup and forced him to miss the series.
Williamson believed the 31-year-old would clear his physical and be able to play in Australia.
“He is upbeat and undoubtedly eager to make a case for being able to play in the World Cup”
