Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Noah Dastagir Butt broke the record for the Commonwealth Games. On the sixth day of the competition in Birmingham, Pakistan’s first gold and bronze medals were won.
Noah won the gold with a stunning lift. The 23-year-old improved on his bronze from the last Olympics, which were held on Australia’s Gold Coast four years ago.
Noah made it clear from the start of the men’s +109kg weightlifting final that he wanted to win gold when he crushed the scratch, lifting 170kg the first time and then 173kg the second time.
It didn’t matter that they failed to lift 175 kg. Halfway through the final, Nooh was in the lead, followed by David Andrew Liti of New Zealand (170 kg) and Gurdeep Singh of India (167 kg), who was tied for third with Gordon Shaw.
Noah then crushed the competition in the clean and jerk round. He beat Liti’s marks of 218kg and 224kg and Gurdeep’s lift of 223kg by lifting 225kg on his first try and then a huge 232kg on his second try, for a total of 405kg. He beat the record of 403kg that Liti set four years ago on his way to winning gold.
Liti got silver with 394 kilograms, and Gurdeep got bronze with 390 kilograms.
Noah and Shujauddin Malik are the only weightlifters from the country to have won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. In 2006, Malik won in the 85 kg class.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Noah Dastagir Butt for winning the gold medal in the weightlifting category at the Commonwealth Games.
The Prime Minister issued a statement on social media and wrote that ‘Well done, Butt Sahib’.
Talking to the news, Noah Dastagir Butt said, “I thank God for winning the medal”.
Noah Dastagir Butt said ‘I can’t express my feelings, I was trying to win this game for 7 years, it is not easy to lift such a weight, after 12 to 13 years of hard work, and I did it.
He said that his father trains at home, my father was also an international weightlifter while my brother is also in this sport. Last time, he won the bronze medal, but this time he made Pakistan famous.
Noah Dastagir Butt said that there is no need to tell the government, I have done my work, now show it.
