Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations (UNSG), has asked for a big increase in funding to help developing countries adapt to climate change and become more resilient.

In an interview with state TV, he said, “It is very important that developing countries get financial help for adapting and being resilient. We need $300 billion to help countries that are still poor. It needs a lot of responsibility.”

Guterres said that the Paris agreement had planned for losses and damage to the environment, but there had been no progress or serious talk about the problem. But he was hopeful that progress on the issue of climate change would be made during upcoming international talks.

When he talked about the damage caused by floods in Pakistan, he said, “I don’t know how to describe what I’ve seen because the area that is flooded is three times the size of my country, Portugal.”

I saw a natural disaster that had never happened before. It was caused by climate change, and the people suffered a lot. People lost their homes, crops, livestock, and ways to make a living, and some of them have to pay back the loans they took out to plant crops. It is a terrible human tragedy on a huge scale.”

At the same time, the UNSG said he was deeply moved and inspired by the stories of women and men who had left their homes to go save their neighbors. “These acts of kindness, unity, and bravery make me think that the rest of the world has a huge responsibility to help Pakistan,” he said, adding that the problem was huge and that the country didn’t have the resources to help its people and economy recover from the disaster.

“We have to stop fighting against nature. Nature is fighting back, and it’s having terrible effects in Pakistan and other places around the world,” he said.

He said that most of the people who died were in places that were less safe from climate change. International help isn’t about being kind; it’s about doing what’s right. We need to get the word out and speak out against the tragedy.

Also, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked UNSG Antonio Guterres for coming to Pakistan to show support for flood victims in a way that had never been done before.

Prime minister said on his Twitter account that the UNSG two-day trip to Pakistan was very important for bringing attention to the human tragedy around the world. He said again that Pakistan needed help from all over the world to deal with the problem.

“A big thank you to UNSG Antonio Guterres for helping the flood victims in a way that has never been done before. His two-day trip has done a lot to bring attention to the human tragedy. Deeply moved by his kindness and ability to lead. “Pakistan needs help from around the world to deal with this problem,” he wrote on Twitter.

In a related tweet, the prime minister said that the UN secretary-general was shocked by how bad the damage was in Pakistan when he went to see flood-damaged areas and camps on a very hot day. “The voice of flood victims has become his voice. What he said about climate change should be taken seriously,” he said.
