Islamabad Police ask for extension to keep Shahbaz Gill in custody
Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Shahbaz Gill, a leader of the PTI, was brought before the Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Friday morning after a medical board set up to check on his health said he was “fit.”
The leader of the PTI was taken out of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) with an oxygen mask on and taken to a hearing for a sedition case that had been filed against him.
The case is being heard by the Judicial Magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali Khan, who is a judge on duty. The police will try to get the physical remand to last longer.
A PIMS medical board had said earlier that the PTI leader was “fit” and “healthy” and could be released at any time.
According to the report, the PTI leader went to the hospital for 10 different tests and x-rays, and all of them came back “clear.” Sources said that there were no signs of torture in the report.
On Wednesday, a district and sessions court told police to keep Gill in jail for another 48 hours. Gill has been in jail since August 9. But PTI went to the Islamabad High Court to fight the case.
After the court decided to extend the remand, the PTI leader’s health started to get worse, and after hours of drama, he was moved from Adiala Jail to PIMS.
The IGP in Islamabad was told to look into claims of torture
On Thursday, the IHC told the inspector general of police (IGP) in Islamabad to give a detailed report about how Gill was allegedly tortured while in police custody and about the fight at Adiala Jail over who was in charge of the accused.
The court also gave Gill’s lawyers permission to visit him at the hospital where he was getting medical care.
IHC Acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq was in charge of the case, and Gill’s lawyers were able to meet with him, even though they said they had been stopped from seeing their client earlier Thursday morning.
The judge also told the Adiala Jail staff to explain why they didn’t take him into custody when they were supposed to.
The lawyers for the PTI asked for the remand order to be lifted, but the IHC judge didn’t do that. Instead, he extended the order until Monday and put off the hearing until the same day.
