Imran Khan disqualifies in Toshakhana case for 5 years

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Friday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified PTI Chairman Imran Khan for five years under Article 63(i)(iii) for making a false statement in the Toshakhana reference.

The verdict was pronounced at the ECP Secretariat in Islamabad by a four-member panel led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja.

The five-member panel reached a unanimous conclusion. The member from Punjab, however, was not there for today’s announcement.

According to the verdict, Imran will face criminal charges for misdeclaration.

In a vast legal success for the ruling coalition on Friday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified former Prime Minister Imran Khan and decided that the PTI chairman is no longer a member of the National Assembly.

According to the ECP, Imran Khan presented a fake affidavit and was found to be implicated in corrupt acts.

PTI leader Fawad Chauhdry rejected the verdict, calling it an attack on Pakistan’s 220 million people.

The judgement was delivered amid heavy security in the Red Zone, where at least 1,100 police officers were stationed under the leadership of a senior superintendent of police to maintain law and order. Five superintendents of police and six deputy superintendents of police assisted the officer.

According to reports, the law enforcement agency was handed tear gas shells in case the party employees staged a demonstration.

According to a notice, the ECP had ordered all relevant parties or their counsels to appear before the commission at its secretariat on Constitution Avenue, G-5/2, in Islamabad.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the ECP reserved its decision in the Toshakhana case on September 19. The case was heard by a five-member ECP bench chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Toshakhana is a Persian term that means “treasure house.”

Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan has found Imran Khan guilty of corrupt activities and has barred him from running for office.

“Election commission of Pakistan has found Imran Khan guilty of corrupt practices. He now stands disqualified. He who would spread lies about alleged corruption of his political opponents has been caught red handed,” Bilawal said.

Furthermore, once Imran Khan was found guilty of corrupt activities, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz requested that he be jailed.

Imran Khan disqualified for five years: Federal Law Minister

Azam Nazeer Tarar revealed that Imran Khan has been disqualified for five years by the ECP.

During a press conference in Islamabad, he stated that Khan gave false information to the Election Commission. “The ECP was cautious, otherwise else another action may have been taken against Khan,” he explained.

He stated that Imran Khan’s colleagues believe there has been a major injustice. “Injustice occurs when the law does not cover everything,” he explained.
