Web Desk (LTN NEWS): At least 37 more people have died in flood-related accidents across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the disaster to 1,545.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) says that 32 people have died in Sindh and 5 people have died in Balochistan in the last 24 hours.

During the same time period, at least 92 people were hurt, including 91 in Sindh and one in Gilgit-Baltistan. This brings the total number of people hurt to 12,850.

NDMA report also said that as many as 104,072 homes were damaged the day before and that at least 8,252 cattle died because of the floods.

Flood losses may go over $40 billion

This week, the National Flood Response Coordination Centre (NFRCC) threw out the first estimate of $18 billion in economic losses and damages caused by the floods. This made people worry that the floods could have cost the country more than $40 billion.

The $40 billion in losses were mentioned at a meeting of the flood response center, where a Ministry of Finance report called “An Early Assessment of Flood Impact on Pakistan’s Economy” was talked about.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal is in charge of the NFRCC. The NFRCC is a group of civilian and military people who work together to monitor and coordinate relief and recovery work.

Iqbal told that the damage from the floods could be anywhere from $30 billion to over $40 billion, based on how bad things are.

For the first time, a loss estimate of $40 billion has been given. This is three times more than the first estimate, which was between $10 billion and $12 billion. The new number is even much higher than the $30 billion that Antonio Guterres, the head of the UN, said last week.
