At a press conference in Islamabad, the country’s new finance minister said that the new prices would go into effect at midnight tonight.

“The price of a liter of gasoline has gone down by Rs12.63, from Rs237.43 to Rs224.80. In the same way, the price of high-speed diesel is going down by Rs12.13. It will now be sold for Rs235.30, which is less than the old price of Rs247.43 “the minister said.

In the same way, the price of kerosene oil will go down by Rs10.19 to Rs191.83, and the price of light diesel oil will go down by Rs10.78 to Rs186.50.

Dar said that the decision to lower prices was made after a “detailed discussion” with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He said that Rs685 billion in taxes were collected in September and that Rs1,635 billion were collected in the third quarter, which was more than the target of Rs1,609 billion.

The minister also said that many people were having trouble filing their tax returns because of the floods, and they asked the government to extend the deadline.

“Because trade groups and businesspeople asked for it, we are extending the deadline for filing income tax returns by a month, to October 31, 2022. I urge everyone to send in their taxes by the new deadline “Dar added.

Shortly after the minister said that gas prices would go down, one of Miftah Ismail’s critics, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, tweeted that the move was “finally some relief for the masses” and “good news.”
