Court again fine Imran Khan in Khawaja defamation case

Imran Khan

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Saturday, Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was fined Rs5,000 for asking for a delay in the hearing of the Rs10 billion defamation case against Defense Minister Khawaja Asif. This is the second time Khan has been fined for this.

The case was heard in a sessions court. The lawyer for the former prime minister asked for the hearing to be put off because the main lawyer was out of the country, and Imran had a meeting.

The court put off the hearing until October 22, but the former prime minister had to pay a fine.

The same thing happened on September 10, when the former prime minister was fined Rs5,000.

At the time, the PTI leader asked for a break because he was busy with the party’s rallies.

Advocate Ali Shah Geelani, the lawyer for the PML-N leader, showed up in court during the hearing, but his cross-examination about Khan’s statement had to be put off.

Earlier this year, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) agreed to hear Asif’s case against the decision not to let him cross-examine the then-prime minister in Khan’s defamation case against him.

Athar Minallah, the head judge of the IHC, said that the case should be heard every day and decided in due time.

He also said that the trial court would be told to make a decision on the case within two months.

During the trial, the judge asked Khawaja Asif’s lawyer why he was delaying the case, saying that he was doing so for no good reason and warning him not to do so again.

In 2012, the head of the PTI sued Asif for libel for saying that the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust funds were not open, that money was being laundered, and that anonymous companies were used. The suit was worth Rs10 billion.

In his lawsuit, the former prime minister mentioned Asif’s press conference on August 1, 2012, in which he said that the PTI chief had “gambled” away a huge amount of money that had been given to his cancer hospital. Khan said that the claims were false and hurtful.
