Swati talks about “torture in jail” and asks COAS to look into it

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Senator Azam Swati of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party talked about the “torture” he says the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) put him through on Tuesday.

Swati said these things at a press conference. The FIA cybercrime unit arrested him on October 13 for making “controversial claims” about state institutions and the army chief.

Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, called the denial of Swati’s citizenship illegal and said that an elderly man was tortured in front of his grandchildren for “criticising the institution,” which he said was a crime. He also said that the incident gave Pakistan a bad name.

In his press conference, Swati told Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Bajwa that the COAS had 27 days left at the army general headquarters (GHQ). He also asked the COAS to follow the Constitution and call FIA cybercrime assistant director Ayaz Khan.

The senator said that the FIA employee was there and driving the car while he was being tortured.

He asked that everyone’s phone be checked to see if there was a video of him being tortured and to find out who was laughing during it.

“They put a blanket over my head and hit me the whole way, while someone recorded the whole thing as I screamed,” he said.

The senator said he was then taken to a place he did not know, where he was beaten and stripped naked.

“If I’m lying, God will punish me,” he told the COAS, repeating that he had also been tortured in his own home.
