Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Monday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) turned down PTI’s request for three weeks to provide documents in the case against party leader Imran Khan for not sharing details about gifts from Toshakhana. Instead, it told PTI to give the documents within a week.
Barrister Gohar, the lawyer for PTI leader Imran Khan, went to the ECP on Monday to make his case. A five-member commission led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the case.
Barrister Khalid Ishaq spoke for the coalition government in front of the bench, and petitioner Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha spoke for PML-N.
At the start of the hearing, the PTI lawyer insisted that the party needed at least three weeks to gather and hand over the documents related to the declaration of assets.
“We are looking into whether or not someone put an iPhone and watches on his list of assets,” the lawyer told the bench.
He went on to say that the ECP had to finish the case within three months, so the party would rather submit its answer with another in a similar case asking for Imran to be kicked out of office.
At this point, the CEC said that the PTI would still have the documents that were revealed in the ECP’s report.
Barrister Gohar Khan, however, said that Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, who filed the petition for PML-N, should also submit the statements about his party’s assets.
The petitioner spoke up and said that the fact that other parties didn’t list their assets didn’t give Imran Khan “permission to his assets.”
After that, the hearing was put off until August 29.
