Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Islamabad police asked for another seven-day extension on Wednesday to keep PTI leader Shahbaz Gill in jail. He has been charged with sedition and inciting mutiny in the army after making controversial comments.
Gill’s two-day remand, which was approved last Wednesday, ends today, which is much later than planned because the court decided at the last hearing that the remand had started late and, as a result, was not finished. This is why the police are asking for an extension.
If the extension is granted, it would be the second time in this case, and the PTI and Gill have both said that the party leader was tortured and sexually abused.
The request was made to Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman, who was in charge of today’s court proceedings in the capital at a district and sessions court.
Gill’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, told the court at the start of the hearing that he planned to get a power of attorney signed today.
But the judge said that the power of attorney had already been signed.
Then, he asked the lawyer if Gill had made it to court.
To that, Chaudhry said “no” and pointed out that the suspect still hadn’t arrived even though he was supposed to be there at 1 pm.
He asked the judge if he should start making his case.
But the judge said that before the arguments, it would be important to see what the investigating officer had written in the case file. He said, “The file is not here yet.”
Later, the police took Gill to court and asked for another seven days to hold him.
