Web Desk (LTN NEWS): A leader of the PTI says the case against him is based on “bad faith” and “political malice.”
Shahbaz Gill, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), asked for bail at a local sessions court on Thursday. He was charged with trying to get people to rebel against institutions.
Gill’s legal team filed the plea on his behalf, and it said that the case against him was made out of “bad faith and political malice.”
Gill said that parts of his statement, which got him locked up, were changed and put in the case’s first informant report (FIR). The application said that Gill couldn’t be charged because of how the FIR was written.
The leader of the PTI asked the court to let him out on bail
Earlier, when Gill was brought to the jail on judicial remand, the jail medical officer gave him a preliminary medical exam. This was in line with the jail manual. Sources say that his pulse, blood sugar, blood pressure, and other things were checked and that there were only small changes.
Gill told the doctor that he was taking medicine for everyone. Sources also said that Gill had had trouble breathing, infections, and coughs in the past.
After the medical checkup, he got a B class and was taken to his prison cell.
The request for physical remand was denied.
On Wednesday, a local court in Islamabad denied the Islamabad police’s request to extend Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand and sent the PTI leader to jail on judicial remand.
The police asked for a seven-day extension, but Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman said no. The physical remand of Imran Khan’s chief of staff ended on August 24.
Gill’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, told the court that he wanted to get a power of attorney signed. The judge told him that it had already been signed.
“Nothing but lies in the case”
Gill’s lawyer, Chaudhry, talked to the media after Wednesday’s hearing and said that a bail application for the PTI leader’s release will be filed right away. He also said that the whole case against Gill was based on “nothing but lies.”
Chaudhry also said that “torture in prison” needs to be stopped and that everyone needs to speak out against it.
He also talked about the bill against torture in prison, which has been in a standing committee for a while, saying that the government needs to pass it.
Gill was arrested on August 9 after the Kohsar police station in the federal capital filed a sedition case against him because of his controversial comments about the military. The next day, he was brought before a judge, and on August 12, he was sent to jail on judicial remand.
