Prime Minister boosts flood aid from Rs28 billion to Rs70 billion

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that help for flood victims would go up from Rs28 billion to Rs70 billion under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

During his trip to Qamber Shahadkot to check on rescue efforts in Sindh, the prime minister told the media that he had decided to raise the amount because the number of families who had to move because of the disaster was rising.

He went on to say that the province had never seen this much destruction before.

He praised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government and its efforts to help the people of Sindh get back on their feet.

“Everyone is working very hard, but the problems are huge and there aren’t many resources,” he said.

The Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, went with the Prime Minister to a meeting about the flood damage in the province.

“We also plan to use the grant that was announced for each province with the help of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA),” he said.

“Everything is broken and ruined, and all the crops have been destroyed. There is nothing left,” he said, adding, “Sindh is the worst-affected province, then Balochistan, then K-P, Northern Punjab, and other areas.”

Prime Minister also said that the displaced people needed shelter and mosquito nets right away. He said that the government had placed an order for seven million tents and that mosquito kits would be given out soon.

“This is not the time for politics. This is the time for us to come together as a country and face the challenges ahead of us,” he said, referring to Imran Khan’s speeches at recent rallies in Punjab.
