Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Initial estimates from the provincial government of KP show that flood relief, rebuilding infrastructure, and paying compensation will cost around Rs68 billion. According to official documents, the government will have to spend around Rs12.2 billion to pay families for deaths, injuries, lost livestock, and damage to their property, and Rs5 billion on relief activities.

Roads and bridges have lost a total of Rs18.6 billion, agriculture has lost Rs14 billion, and irrigation has lost Rs19 billion. The documents showed that the monsoon disaster hurt the agricultural sector of the province the most. Early estimates put the damage at about Rs14 billion.

CM asks the authorities to make sure that relief goods are given out fairly.

Officials say that the number is probably going to go up by the time the final number of losses is calculated. The documents showed that the floods killed 13,228 cattle heads, which cost their owners more than Rs1.5 billion. The floods also destroyed 97,063 metric tons of standing crops and caused farmers to lose Rs9.16 billion.

In the same way, over Rs3 billion worth of damage was done to the province when 2,248 waterways and water storage tanks were washed away.

The government’s three agricultural research stations in the province had about Rs3 billion worth of damage, and 477 irrigation structures had about Rs19.16 billion worth of damage.

In the province, the flash floods destroyed 90 schools and damaged 1,096 more. There was also damage to 91 health facilities, including 52 basic health units and 37 dispensaries.

The natural disaster also caused damage to more than 1,455 kilometers of roads and 73 bridges, mostly in Swat. More than 600,000 people had to move because of it, and 76,700 homes were damaged, with 65,165 in the Dera Ismail Khan district and 2,400 in the Tank district.

The documents also showed that Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Upper, and Lower Kohistan, Charsadda, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank districts were the worst hit by floods, while Upper and Lower Chitral, Mansehra, and Swabi districts had “medium intensity” losses.

They said that more than 364,000 people were moved out of flood-affected areas and that 96,228 people were saved. By August 31, 56,183 people were living in the relief camps that were set up in different areas.
