Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) gave the PTI six weeks to give details about how it got money from outside Pakistan.
On August 2, a three-member bench of the ECP led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander (CEC) Sultan Raja came to a unanimous decision that the PTI got money from illegal sources. The party was sent a notice asking why the money shouldn’t be taken away.
In response to the notice, the PTI’s lawyer, Shah Khawar, gave the ECP the party’s interim answer. He also sent in four people’s video statements and National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs).
During the trial, the lawyer for the PTI asked the court to give them at least eight weeks to gather information.
“It’s a case from 10 years ago, and we need information from the party’s chapters abroad,” he said.

At this point, the chief election commissioner said that the law of the country says that no foreign company can give money to a political party.
The CEC said, “You have registered a company as required by US law under FARA.”
The ECP gave PTI six weeks to file the details, and the hearing was put on hold.
What will happen if funding case proves
Former ECP secretary Kanwar Dilshad said that if illegal funding is found to have come from the PTI, all of its lawmakers will be kicked out and its offices will be shut down.
Kanwar Dilshad told before the Election Commission’s decision on the illegal funding case that if the commission rules against PTI and says the party got illegal money, the body will send a reference to the federal government.
Dilshad had said that once the government got the reference, it would go to the Supreme Court and file a reference under Article 17 against the party.
He had said that the highest court would then hold a hearing with the whole court.
Dilshad had said that the PTI could challenge the Election Commission’s decision in the highest court before the government sent a reference.
