City expects to get 40mm of rain today: Weather report Karachi

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Heavy rains could cause flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, and Larkana today, according to the PMD.

As heavy to moderate showers moved through most of Karachi this morning, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that a strong monsoon system would bring more rain to the port city on Wednesday (today).

The Met Office said that a low-pressure system that brings rain is in place between Sindh and Rajasthan, India and that it is likely to move toward Sindh in the next 6 to 8 hours.

The Met Office said that heavy rain will fall in central and upper Sindh, which includes Karachi. The port city is expected to get between 20 and 40 mm of rain during the forecast period.

PMD says the rain will keep coming until tomorrow evening

In a statement, the PMD said, “A well-marked low-pressure area (LPA) is currently over Sindh. It is likely to move to the northwest over the next 24 hours and move toward Balochistan. There is also a wave coming from the west over the upper and western parts of the country.

It said that Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan should expect rain, wind, and thunderstorms.

The PMD warned that heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Naushahro Feroz, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Sukkur today.

The Met Office also said that from August 24 to 26, there will be flash flooding in Qilla Saifullah, Quetta, Ziarat, Harnai, Pishin, Loralai, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Bolan, Awaran, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

It said that on August 24 and 25, heavy rains could cause flooding in the cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, Lahore, and Gujranwala.
