Elon Musk claims Twitter will change its user verification process

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Twitter will modify its user verification procedure, Elon Musk announced in a tweet on Sunday, just days after he took over one of the world’s most popular social media companies.

“Whole verification procedure is being redone right now,” Musk added in his tweet without adding any details.

Twitter is considering charging for the coveted blue check mark authenticating the identity of its account user, technology newsletter Platformer said on Sunday, citing two people familiar with the topic.

According to the article, users would have to subscribe to Twitter Blue at $4.99 a month or lose their “verified” badges if the initiative comes through.

The CEO of Tesla Inc has not made a final decision, and the project could yet be abandoned, but according to Platformer, it is likely that verification will become a part of Twitter Blue.

The Verge claimed on Sunday that Twitter would boost the membership price for Twitter Blue, which also validates users, from $4.99 a month to $19.99 a month, citing internal correspondence viewed by them.

Twitter Blue was launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service, which gives “exclusive access to premium features” monthly subscription, including an option to modify tweets.

The feature to modify tweets was also made available earlier this month after Musk conducted a Twitter poll in April asking his millions of followers whether they wanted an edit button. Over 70% answered yes.

Musk has reportedly demanded that logged-out users accessing Twitter’s site be moved to Explore page, which shows trending tweets, according to a Verge report on Sunday quoting staffers familiar with the subject.
