Web Desk (LTN NEWS): After India let out 171,797 cusecs of water on Monday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned of a medium to high flood in the river Ravi.

The NDMA told all the relevant departments to take precautions so that no lives would be lost and no private or public property would be damaged.

The Flood Forecasting Division of the Pakistan Meteorological Department says that India opened the Ujh Barrage on the Ravi, which caused water to flow down the river and reach Jassar on Tuesday (today).

The NDMA sent out an alert, and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi led a meeting to talk about it. He also told the authorities to make sure that people living near the river were evacuated.

At the meeting, it was also decided to put high-tech radars in Lahore and Sialkot so that they could keep an eye on the flooding in the Ravi.

The CM also told the government to give the displaced tents, food, and other supplies.

Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) sent a flood alert to all the departments, including irrigation, food, communication and works, agriculture, local government and community development, HUD and PHE, and primary and secondary healthcare.

The PDMA ordered that flood-fighting, rescue, and relief teams be sent out right away with the necessary tools and equipment, that food baskets be sent to families who were stuck, and that livestock is moved and feed is given.

It said that people living in the most dangerous areas should be moved to temporary relief camps or safe places as needed. The district administration should also make sure that cooked food is available in relief camps. So that epidemics don’t spread, medical teams should be ready to give first aid to those who need it.

At the same time, water from India’s Dek and Oh drains flooded 48 villages in Pakistan’s Narowal and Sialkot districts.

The amount of water that came out of Dek was almost 40,000 cusecs, but it could only flow at 25,000 cusecs. Water hurt rice and livestock fields.

The District Emergency Officer for Rescue 1122 in Narowal, Naeem Akhtar, said that four farmers from Biharwal village in Shakargarh tehsil who were working in the fields on the other side of the Ravi were stuck in the river because of the flooding.

He said that Rescue 1122 came right away and saved the farmers who were up in trees.
