IHC gives Imran Khan Bail till Aug 25

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Monday, the Islamabad High Court gave Imran Khan protective bail until Thursday, August 25, in a terrorism case filed against him for “threatening” a female judge and senior police officers at a public rally.

Sunday, the ex-prime minister was charged under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, which punishes terrorist acts, for comments he made at a rally in Islamabad on Saturday.

Imran’s lawyers, Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry asked the IHC for bail before he was arrested earlier today.

The petition was taken up by a two-person bench made up of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Babar Sattar. They asked what the registrar’s office had against it.

Awan told the judge that an objection had been made to the plea about going to the right place. Justice Kayani said that an objection had also been made about biometrics.

During the trial, Awan said that Imran’s home in Banigala was “surrounded” and that “he can’t even get to the right court.” He asked the court to give Imran bail so that the right people could be contacted.

“If the court wants to use its power to give bail before an arrest, that’s your job,” he said.

Justice Kayani said that the anti-terrorism court was the right place to go and that the IHC couldn’t give Imran bail before his arrest at this point.

The court then gave Imran bail until Thursday and told him to go to the right court by that time.

But Awan asked the court to let him out on bail for one more day. He thought that three days wasn’t enough time.

At that point, Justice Kayani said, “I’ll pick a special judge and give an order to go to the right place within an hour.”

PTI is facing a very harsh dictatorship: Fawad

Fawad Chaudhry, a leader of the PTI, said that the government knew how people felt about them if they tried to do anything “illegal” against Imran Khan.

The former federal minister told the press in Islamabad that the case against the PTI leader was illogical and should be dropped because of this. He criticized the government for putting limits on TV channels, which “had never been done in the country before,”.

“We have to deal with this extreme dictatorship because we have a minority government and people are trying to keep it in power by force.”

He said the government would fall before September 10.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a top member of the PTI, said that the whole country was behind Imran and that “this bond cannot be broken.” He said that the country would lose in the long run if anyone tried to “break this wall of people.”
