Karachi gets hit by heavy rains

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): PMD says that heavy rains could cause flooding in Karachi’s cities. A new monsoon spell hit Karachi on Tuesday, bringing with it heavy rains that flooded the streets and made people nervous.

In its daily weather report today, the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) said that strong monsoon currents are moving through most of the central and southern parts of the country and are likely to keep doing so for the next two to three days.

“Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan. During the same time, heavy rain is also expected in parts of lower Sindh, east Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and South Punjab.

The Met Office said that on August 16, heavy rains could cause flooding in the cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore, and Gujranwala.

Local Nullahs in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Shakar Garh, Sialkot, Narowal, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Dir, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Kashmir are likely to flood quickly on August 16.

The PMD also said that from August 16 to 18, heavy rains could cause flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazir Abad, and Mirpurkhas.

From the 16th to the 18th of August, flash flooding is also expected in Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Mosa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Panjgur, Pasni, Jiwani, Ormara, Gwadar, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

During the forecast period, the rain could cause landslides in Kashmir, the hilly parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Chillas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, and Skardu.
