Meta reliefs 125m rupees to help flood victims

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): As historic monsoon rains cause flooding all over the country, Facebook’s parent company, Meta, said on Wednesday that it would give Rs125 million to flood victims.

In a press release, the tech giant said it would give the money to Unicef and Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) to help flood-affected communities.

Children in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan will be able to go back to school with the help of money. It will also help with emergency aid, food, water, and sanitation.

“Pakistan is experiencing one of the worst natural disasters we’ve ever seen. Millions of people are affected, and the whole country is coming together to help them through this hard time. We hope that our donations will help the communities and families affected by the disaster, and our thoughts are with them as they try to get back on their feet,” said Meta’s director for Emerging Markets, APAC, Jordi Fornies.

Before the donation, when the flooding started, the company said, Safety Check on Facebook was turned on so that people could let their friends and family know they were safe.

There was also a crisis page set up where people could use the Community Help feature to ask for and give help from different communities.

Michael J. Nyenhuis, president and CEO of Unicef USA, said, “We want to thank Meta for all the help.”

Communities on different platforms owned by Meta have raised more than a million dollars for non-profits that are helping with flood relief. Major NGOs all over the world have also raised a lot of money through Facebook and Instagram.

The official statement also said that Meta is always looking for new ways to help not only families in the areas that have been hit hard but also NGOs and other causes.
