Web Desk (LTN NEWS): PM Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Thursday for a two-day trip during which he will attend the 22nd annual meeting of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
When PM Shehbaz arrived at the airport, he was met by Abdulla Aripov, PM of Uzbekistan.
“Pakistan says again that it supports the Shanghai Spirit”
Before he left, PM Shehbaz went on Twitter to talk about the SCO summit.
“Leaving for Uzbekistan today to attend the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO. The global economic turbulence has necessitated the need for more cooperation among the SCO member countries. The SCO vision represents the aspirations of 40% of the world population,” he said.
“The SCO has a lot of potentials to help find a way forward at a time when changes in geopolitical and geoeconomic fields are very worrying,” he said.
Uzbek president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, invited PM to attend the CHS meeting, which he will lead.
Radio Pakistan said that at the upcoming meeting, SCO leaders will talk about important global and regional issues like climate change, food security, energy security, and sustainable supply chains.
They will also sign agreements and documents that plan how SCO member states will work together in the future.

The report also said that the PM is likely to meet with other leaders at the event on a one-on-one basis.
But earlier, Asim Iftikhar, a spokesman for the Foreign Office, told PM Shehbaz that he didn’t have any plans to meet with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.
When asked, an official said that the two could meet briefly out of courtesy, but they wouldn’t be talking because neither side had asked for a meeting.
