Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Pakistan Cricket Board says that the national cricket team will wear a special jersey in the first T20 match against England today “to bring attention to the damage caused by the floods in the country”.

Flooding in Pakistan was caused by record monsoon rains in the south and southwest and glacial melt in the north. Nearly 33 million people have been affected by the flooding, which has killed more than 1,540 people, destroyed homes, crops, bridges, roads, and livestock, and is estimated to have cost $30 billion in damage.

Fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani posted a picture of himself on Twitter wearing the new jersey, which is blue instead of green. “Pakistan’s new kit is for those who were hurt by the flood,” he wrote in a tweet.

In the picture that PCB shared, you can see the player number and a pattern of water rising from below, which is a sign of floods.

The first four T20 games are in Karachi on September 20, 22, 23, and 25. The last three games are in Lahore on September 28, 30, and October 2.

In a press release yesterday, the PCB said it would donate all of the ticket sales from the first T20 to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund “to help the victims of the devastating floods that have submerged one-third of the country.”

England is the current 50-over world champion. In December, they will play a Test series in Pakistan, and then New Zealand will come back.

England was supposed to come in October of last year, but they changed their plans at the last minute after New Zealand pulled out of a tour because of safety concerns.
