Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) says that the army chief said these things during a meeting on Wednesday with Commander of the Iraqi Navy Lieutenant General Ahmed Jasim Maarij Abdullah Al Zayid.
The army’s media branch said that during the meeting, topics of mutual interest, regional security issues, and ways to improve defense cooperation between the two countries were talked about.
The COAS said that Pakistan values its brotherly relationship with Iraq and that it knows the Iraqi people have made sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He also said that terrorism is a worldwide problem that could make the region less stable and needs a well-coordinated response.
The ISPR also said that the visiting dignitary praised the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and expressed his sorrow over the recent helicopter crash in Balochistan, which took the lives of many important people.
He thanked Pakistan for its part in keeping the area stable and promised to make it easier for the two countries military forces to work together, the statement said.
Earlier today, General Ahmed also met with the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, at the Naval Headquarters (NHQ) in Islamabad. He thanked the Pakistan Navy for its efforts and initiatives to improve maritime security in the region as a whole.
A Pakistan Navy news release said that when the commander arrived at the Naval Headquarters, he was met by the naval chief, given a guard of honor, and introduced to the main staff officers.
During the meeting, they talked about things that were important to both of them, like how they could work together and make the region’s maritime security better.
The naval chief talked about the Regional Maritime Security Patrols that the Pakistan Navy is doing to keep peace and security at sea in the region. Later, the Iraqi commander was given a full explanation of the roles and capabilities of the Pakistan Navy.
The recent visit of the commander of the Iraqi Navy is thought to have made it easier for the two countries to work together.
