Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Solar power is growing because it is cheaper, changing, and important. Experts say it’s possible that solar could provide half of the world’s electricity by the middle of the century.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that solar systems should be given to Balochistan first. He said that this would help reduce the cost of importing fuel.

“The people will be given solar systems as an alternative to the expensive electricity that is made using fuel that is brought in from other countries.

“Solarization would not only cut the cost of importing fuel, but it would also help make electricity that is cheap and good for the environment,” Shehbaz said.

The prime minister told the relevant authorities to make a detailed plan so that the solar projects could be built quickly. He asked that solar power systems for the whole country be put in place first in Balochistan.

He was in charge of a meeting to talk about how to make solar energy more popular in the country.

Before the meeting started, people talked about how solar projects could be used instead of expensive power projects. It was said that the government would start around 14,000 megawatts worth of solar projects in the next few months.

The officials told the meeting that the solar projects, which add up to about 9,000MW, would be done first. Under the plan, they said that not only would the solar systems be sold at lower prices, but there would also be tax breaks.

The prime minister said that the alternative energy policy put in place by the previous Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in 2020 failed not only to get the results that were needed but also to get investors interested in the sector.

Shehbaz asked an inquiry commission to report quickly on why power projects were put on hold while the PTI was in power. He also wanted a detailed report on how much money was received through the electricity bills as a fuel price adjustment.
