Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Army chief will visit army troops in Sindh and Balochistan who are helping with rescue and relief efforts. ISPR Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Karachi on Friday. He was told about the flooding in Sindh and Balochistan and what was being done to help those affected.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) says that the army chief will visit army troops in Sindh and Balochistan who are helping with rescue and relief work. At Headquarters Army Air Defence Command Rawalpindi, there is now a flood relief center for the army. Its job is to oversee and coordinate the national flood relief efforts across the country, working with the Military Operations Directorate.
In different parts of the country, flood relief centers are being set up to help with the collection, transportation, and distribution of aid goods to flood victims. The army is moving people to safer places, giving them shelter and food, and taking care of their medical needs. The ISPR also put out new information about the flooding in provinces and regions.
Sindh: There have been reports of light rain in the province, with Mohenjadaro (38mm) getting the most rain. Thirteen people died in Sanghar, Larkana, and Khairpur when buildings fell down or they drowned. In Qambar Shahdad Kot, a local bund west of Warah broke because of too much water flow. This affected more than 600 people.
Army efforts to help: At Thatta, a tent village for 60 families were set up. Forward bases are still working in the districts of Nagarparker, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Mirpur Khas, and Dadu to help flood victims get food and other supplies. At Tando Allah Yar and Matiari, more than three more forward bases have been built. Medical care is being given by mobile medical teams in far-flung parts of the province.
Kot Diji: Teams from the army worked to drain the water and give out ration bags. Army troops led an operation to get people out of Khairpur. People who were affected by the flood were given ration packs.
Nowshera Feroze: The army troops were in charge of the dewatering operation. People in the area who were affected by the flood were given ration bags.
Dadu: People who were affected by the flood were given cooked food and other aid. Rescue teams helped ordinary people get out of the area.
Sanghar: A field medical center was set up, and it treated more than 136 people.
Army troops rescued people who were stuck in Kambar Shahdad Kot and brought them to safety.
Thatta: A tent village for 60 or more families was set up. They were each given rations, and a dewatering operation was done.
Badin: A camp to help flood victims was set up in Tehsil Matli. People who were affected were given ration packs, tents, mosquito nets, and cooked food.
Balochistan: Sporadic rain was reported all over the province, with Sibi getting the most rain at 69 mm. Because the water level on Yaro Causeway was too high, traffic on N-65 was temporarily stopped.
Damage to the Hiroki Bridge between Kolpur and Mach stopped trains from running in Jaffarabad.
From Dera Murad Jamali, the road to Chattar and the area around it was temporarily cut off.
Khuzdar: Landslides made it hard for people to drive on M-8 at Wangu. There was repair work going on.
As part of the Army’s efforts to help, five field medical camps were set up, where more than 575 people were treated.
Jhal Magsi: Helping people and draining water were going on in Gandhawa City, and more than 250 ration packs were given out. Over 110 people who were affected by the flood were also given cooked food.
Rescue and aid operations were going on in Naseerabad. More than 500 people were moved to relief camps, and more than 200 ration packs were given out.
Three hundred people were moved to safer places in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, and more than 2,000 people were given medical care. Also, 50 relief camps were set up in areas hit by flooding, and more than 5562 people were moved to safer places and put up.
Overall, more than 38,242 ration packs were given to people in flood-affected areas, and 37,428 people were moved to safer places. The army set up field medical camps, two of which were in Mangrota, Taunsa, Fazilpur, and Rajanpur. At each field medical camp, there is at least one woman medical officer and two men medical officers. In four days, as many as 3,847 people were treated, and they were given medicine.
Rescue teams made up of people who used to be in the army and in the right gear (13 boots, OBMs, life jackets, etc.) are working in DG Khan to rescue and help people.
Also, the army has rescue teams in Rajanpur with more than 22 boats, OBMs, life jackets, etc. to help with rescue and relief operations. Taunsa and Rojhan also had troops sent there, along with the tools they needed.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Nowshera and Risalpur are in a lot of danger because the water level in the River Swat at Khwazakhela-Charsadda is very high. Most of the areas that have been hit by recent floods have declared a state of emergency.
Dera Ismael Khan: Because it rained all the time in the areas where the River Indus starts, there was a flash flood in all of DI Khan’s nullahs, which cut off road access to Bannu, Tank, Zhob, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Tank: There was a flash flood because the flow from Suleiman Ranges went up.
Swat: From Bahrain to Kalam, roads and bridges on N-95 and N-90 were in bad shape because of heavy rain in the river Swat. The road between Kalam and Bahrain was temporarily closed. It should be gone in two or three days.
Kaghan and Naran: At Mahndri, heavy water flows washed away the bridges over the River Kumhar.
Helping out: The army did a rescue operation in DI Khan, and more than 13 people were saved. The army set up nine relief camps and gave out 1,110 ration packs to people who were affected.
In the villages of Rori and Maddi, women’s health centers were set up, and more than 600 people were treated there. A medical camp was set up in Darazinda, and 400 people from the area were treated there. In Swat, the army is helping the government clear away debris and open roads that have been blocked.
