To save Pakistan, universities should train future leaders: Imran

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Imran Khan, the former prime minister, is trying to get support for his upcoming long march to Islamabad. On Thursday, he suggested that political leaders should be allowed to visit colleges and universities to encourage students to go into politics.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman said at an event at the University of Sargodha that universities should also act as “nurseries” for future leaders to save Pakistan from its corrupt political elite.

He said that it was common for political leaders to visit schools in other parts of the world and that this was done all over the world to “groom” the next generation of leaders. He also said that national leaders should be able to visit universities without an invitation. He asked the chancellor of Punjab, who is the governor of Punjab, for the same thing.

Imran Khan criticised the governor for not letting the university’s administration invited him to speak at the event. He said that the governor was a spokesman for a political party whose leader was living in self-imposed exile because he was accused of stealing money from the government. He also said that for students in their “politically formative” years, being in the same room as national leaders would be a great chance.

In addition to the Punjab governor, the vice chancellor of Sargodha university, Dr Qaisar Abbas, was also against Imran Khan’s visit to talk to the student in a joint venture. He is said to have gotten into a fight with PTI leader Usman Dar over the issue.
