The body of Arshad Sharif arrives in Pakistan

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Arshad Sharif, a journalist killed three days ago, is said to have been killed by Kenyan police. His body arrived in Islamabad early on Wednesday.

His wife, Javeria Siddique, wrote on Twitter, “My Arshad is back but in a coffin.” She also showed the coffin in a video that she posted.

TV footage showed that a large group of people, including politicians and media members, had gathered at the Islamabad airport.

She had earlier said that she had a “horrible experience” at the Islamabad airport, where she was not allowed to see the dead body of her late husband.

“Shut the gates and made me wait. All journalists have seen this kind of cruelty. “Imported government should be ashamed,” she said.

Fawad Chaudhry, a senior PTI leader, also tweeted about the chaos at the Islamabad airport

“The people in charge looked scared as if Arshad might come back to life. The ambulance carrying the coffin was moved around so that people wouldn’t gather around it. “The fear was clear,” he said.

Arshad Sharif Dead

Sharif was shot dead in Kenya on Sunday night, allegedly by the local police. An official police statement later said they “regretted the unfortunate incident” and were looking into what happened.

At first, Kenyan media reported that police killed Sharif because they thought he was someone else.

Later, the National Police Service of Kenya confirmed that the incident happened last night along the Kwenia farm/Kamukuru Marram road in Magadi, where “a foreigner named Arshad Mohammed Shariff, a Pakistani national aged 50, was fatally wounded by a police officer while a passenger in a motor vehicle KDG 200M.”

When the accident happened, the person who died was with his brother, Khurram Ahmed. The incident occurred after Pangani Police told people about a stolen car. The officers following the car toward Magadi called the police there, who put up a roadblock.

But Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that a judicial commission would be set up to investigate the journalist’s death. This came after many people were upset and said they were sorry.

In a video message from Saudi Arabia, he said that the commission’s job would be to find out what happened in the tragic incident clearly and conclusively.

The government has also put together a three-person team to investigate what happened. The team is made up of the head of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Athar Wahid, the deputy director general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Omar Shahid Hamid, and Lt Col Saad Ahmed of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

At the same time, the military has asked the government to look into the “accidental” killing at a “high level.”

In an interview on Tuesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Babar Iftikhar said, “It is very unfortunate that people make allegations […] and I think a thorough investigation needs to be done to deal with these things. I think that the investigation should look into not only these things, but also why Arshad Sharif had to leave Pakistan.”

Gen Iftikhar said it was essential to find out who forced Sharif to leave Pakistan, where he had been living all this time, and what had happened before this happened.

“Unfortunately, at all of these stages, at the end of the day, accusations are made and institutions are blamed. So this rumour needs to be put to rest, and it needs to stop,” he said.
