ISI official team to leave for Kenyan immediately

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior took a representative of the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) off the list of people on the team that will find out what happened to journalist Arshad Sharif from the Kenyan Police and other relevant authorities.

In a revised notification, the ministry took ISI Lt Col Saad Ahmed’s name off the list of three officials on the high-profile team. This happened hours after the ministry released an earlier notification with the names of the three officials.

Athar Waheed is the Director/of DIG Police, FIA, and Omar Shahid Hamid is the Deputy Director General Intelligence Bureau. Together, they make up a two-person team.

The notice said that the team would go to Kenya immediately and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s High Commission in Nairobi would help the team while they were there.

It also said that the report would be sent to the Interior Division by the team.

The move comes just one day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that a judicial commission would investigate the killing of the well-known journalist.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said, in a statement that was followed by video statements from the Saudi Arabian prime minister, that the leader had decided to do a “transparent investigation” into the horrible event.

Arshad Sharif was a big fan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan. On October 23, he was shot and killed in Kenya.

The death of the journalist shocked human rights groups, the media community, and civil society, which called for a thorough investigation and full disclosure of the facts.

After the prime minister’s statement, the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) sent a letter to the government asking them to set up an inquiry commission to look into the death of the journalist.

The chief military spokesperson told the media that the military had also asked the government to set up a high-level commission to look into Sharif’s death and take legal action against those making accusations without proof.
