Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Asif Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and a former president, said that Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will not leave the people affected by the floods alone.
Zardari said in a statement that the flooding and rains have made the situation very painful. He also said, “If my health had let me, I would have been with the victims.”
He demanded that the Pakistani government help the poor by bringing together Baitul Mal and expanding the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to help the poor in every way possible.
The former president told the PPP ministers and assembly members to stay close to the people in their districts. He said that the government will pay for the victims to get back on their feet. He also said that now is the time to help people.
In an interview with BBC a day ago, the foreign minister criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for holding political events while the country was being destroyed by unprecedented floods.
He also said that the former PM was busy “scoring political points.”
The PPP chairman said that there would be time for other things, like politics, but that now was the time to help the people who were hurt by the flood.
“Our opponents, whether they were in the government or in the opposition, never cared about these things,” he said.
He also said that the government would give them everything they needed, like tents and food, and that they could stay in schools, colleges, and government buildings for now.
