Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Pakistan’s ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque, said that Pakistan’s exports to China had been going up in the first seven months of the year and that if the trend kept up, the $4 billion goal would be reached by the end of the year.
He told a group of businessmen here, “Our exports to China stayed at US$3.6 billion last year, even though they went up by a record amount. With this momentum, we are likely to reach our US$4 billion goal this year.”
Ambassador Haque asked businesspeople and traders to work with the government and embassy of Pakistan to increase exports from Pakistan to China. He also asked them to come up with different ways to do this.
“On our end, we have already set up Pakistan pavilions in different cities to let Chinese buyers and customers know about Pakistani products. We also use online platforms like JD.com to sell Pakistani products in China,” he said.
He said that soon, deals would be made with other popular online platforms to get their help promoting Pakistani products in the Chinese online market, which is the biggest eCommerce market in the world.
In response to China’s policies that make it easy to import goods, Ambassador Haque said that Pakistani businesses could use both offline and online platforms to sell their goods.
A senior official here said that Pakistan’s exports to China went up even though trade with other countries went down in July. This shows that the government is working to improve bilateral trade.
“The fact that Pakistan’s exports to China are growing is a very good sign. The government of Pakistan wants to use exports to their fullest potential by adding value, using digital marketing, investing in exports, and encouraging businesses in both countries to make Pakistan an important part of China’s supply chain, he said.
A person who knows about economics said that China had let Pakistani goods into its market. Long-term relationships between the two countries could be helpful, and Pakistani traders could sell more goods to China, which has the world’s second-largest economy.
“Pakistan can become a food basket for China because the Chinese market is big and has good buying power. Pakistan should take advantage of its good relationship with China, and China can help Pakistan move its industries and technologies to Pakistan to increase its exports to China and the rest of the world,” he said.
Exports of rice, sesame seeds, pine nuts, seafood, and other agricultural goods to China went up, which helped Pakistan’s economy get back on its feet.
