Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Heartbreaking photographs of Pakistan’s flood devastation were on display at an exhibition that opened Thursday in the UN building’s main lobby, with PM Shehbaz Sharif promising to convey the victims’ distressing voices to the world when he addresses the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Twenty-five photographs tell the bleak story of the deadly floods that have inundated one-third of Pakistan, destroying human lives, infrastructure, livestock, and crops.

“I will convey the sufferings and feelings of our people when I address the UNGA on Friday,” PM Shehbaz told reporters at the exhibition, where he was greeted by Melissa Fleming, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.

The exhibition, titled “Floods in Pakistan – A Climate Change,” was organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations. Documentaries produced by the ministry as well as the United Nations were also shown.

Marriyum Aurangzeb, who was present, also briefed reporters and distinguished visitors to the exhibition on the extent of the flood damage.

PM Shehbaz Sharif stated in his remarks that the estimated loss to Pakistan’s economy is $30 billion, but that it could be higher.

He described UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as “our voice.”

“I met him today and thanked him for raising the voice of humanity’s suffering on the international stage,” he said.

PM Shehbaz stated that the secretary-general informed him that a donors’ conference will be held soon, either in New York or somewhere in Europe, to raise funds for flood victims.
