PM Shehbaz travels to Mohmand Dam and flood-stricken districts

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): The current rescue and relief efforts in the areas affected by the floods were reviewed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif when he arrived in Nowshera on Monday. PM to assess humanitarian operations and meet with local flood victims.

The prime minister would also hand out humanitarian aid checks to the flood victims during the visit.

He was informed by authorities about the most recent flood situation, ongoing rescue and relief efforts, and the amenities being offered to the displaced in the relief camps.

He was also told that the impacted persons were receiving medical care both at the camps and at their homes.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is still providing assistance to flood victims in various parts of K-P. According to a study by the PDMA, at least 10,000 homes have been destroyed, 193 people have died, and 16 schools have suffered damage. Additionally, at least 959 heads of livestock perished in separate mishaps.

The Munda Headworks Bridge in Charsadda, which regulated the flow of the Swat River, fell on Friday night as a result of disastrous rain-induced floods in the province, prompting the K-P administration to issue an “emergency evacuation order” for two districts.

The prime minister will meet with flood victims in the region and oversee relief efforts. District residents had been urged to leave their homes in order to preserve their lives, especially those who lived near the river.

PM Shehbaz will also stop at the Mohmand Dam construction site where he will receive an update on the project’s status. Construction work on the Mohmand Dam hydropower project commenced in May 2019 and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

But according to analysts, if “it gets a significant hit by additional floods,” the project’s completion could be delayed.

The Mohmand Dam is crucial for flood control and will protect Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera from more flooding incidents. An estimated Rs1.467 billion in annual benefits from flood control.
