Web Desk (LTN NEWS): The crisis of shortage of medicines is intensifying across the country.
The Punjab Health Department has requested help from the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and said that currently 53 essential medicines are not available in the province.
It has been asked by the Additional Secretary of the Health Department of Punjab that PPMA should use its influence to manufacture obsolete medicines.
PPMA says that the drugs that are not available in the country are from multinational companies, drugs from multinational companies have stopped coming for thalassemia, cancer, and transplant patients, while raw materials abroad are expensive and the price of the dollar has increased. The medicine crisis is getting worse.
Officials say that the imposition of a three percent tax on the import of medicines made abroad has started reducing imports.
On the other hand, doctors and pharmacists have claimed that at present there is a shortage of more than 100 essential medicines in the entire country, the essential anesthesia medicines are not available across the country, especially in Punjab.
The Prime Minister’s Inspection Team has also started an inquiry into the shortage of medicines and has called the Drug Regulatory Authority, PPMA, and other authorities for a briefing on the shortage of medicines.
