Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, a former interior minister, said on Friday that politicians should be careful about what they say about state institutions, like the Pakistan Army and the courts, because they are our strengths and shouldn’t be made controversial.
Mr. Ahmed, who is the president of the Awami Muslim League (AML), told a press conference at Lal Haveli that he had never talked to the establishment.
“I am with [former prime minister] Imran Khan, and after the no-confidence vote, I have no contact with the establishment,” he said.
He said that he agreed with Imran Khan’s statement that he was ready to talk to the government if an election schedule was made public.
He said, “I am proud that the army chief got a salute in the UK. It is a great honor for the country.”
He said that a picture of him lying on a hospital bed that went viral on social media recently was from when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its worst. He also said, “Some people want Sheikh Rashid to die.”
Criticizing the PML-N and its leaders, he said that they had sold their self-respect for a penny and that out of 62 ministers, 17 did not have any department.
In response to a question, Mr. Ahmed said that he was glad the dollar’s value was going down, but that poor people were still in trouble. He said that the 13-party government had failed to do its job.
“People have to pay a lot for electricity, and inflation has made it hard for them to budget for food.”
“God save this country from being destroyed because people are killing themselves. There were 77 thefts in my district, and wealthy people are also breaking the law.”
He said that the country’s borders were closed, but people were still getting in. Terrorists are making phone calls to people in Rawalpindi city. “How will people do business like this?” he asked.
He said that Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif were lying about being sick. “The government changed the NAB laws to make them better for itself. The plan to change the government has killed Nawaz Sharif’s political career,” he said.
The AML chief also said that there would be a public meeting and fireworks on August 13 in front of Lal Haveli.
