Imran seeks bail in terror case tomorrow at ATC

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Babar Awan, a lawyer, and leader of the PTI, said on Wednesday that former prime minister Imran Khan would go in person to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) tomorrow (Aug 25) to ask for bail in the terrorism case the government has filed against him.

Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (which punishes terrorist acts) was used to file a first investigation report (FIR) against the PTI chairman at the Margalla police station last week. This was because of his comments at the party’s rally in Islamabad on August 20.

So, Imran went to the Islamabad High Court on Monday, where a two-person bench made up of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Babar Sattar gave him bail until August 25.

In a video message posted on PTI’s Twitter, Awan said that Imran had led a meeting of the party’s legal committee earlier today. At that meeting, it was decided that an application for the ex-prime minister’s bail would be filed in an ATC in the capital.

“Imran Khan himself will go there,” the lawyer said, adding that both local and international media had asked about the situation.

“This fake case, in which neither an explosion nor a Kalashnikov was used, nor the police made up charges of terrorism, destroyed Pakistan’s story against terrorism that had been built up over the last 20 years.”

Awan also said that the international media, people who work for human rights, and even the UN were worried about the situation.

“If God wills it, we’ll all go tomorrow together,” he said.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had said before in an interview with Geo TV that the government would try to get Imran’s bail turned down.

He had said, “We will make sure he is arrested from the court.” “And I think the court will look into him carefully for threatening the sessions court judge,” she said.
