A sinkhole opens up near the Sindh CM House

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): During the current monsoon season, flooded roads, clogged gutters, overflowing sewers, and flooded low-lying areas have shown not only how bad Karachi’s sewer system is, but also how big the provincial government’s claims about the rain emergency are.

On Ziauddin Ahmad Road, near the Sindh CM House, a huge sinkhole with a diameter of 6 to 8 feet opened up when the sewer line under the main road collapsed. This forced the government to block the path to Clifton.

A traffic police spokesman said that a broken sewer line with an 88-inch diameter caved in in front of the CM House because of all the rain.

People say that the sinkhole is about 15 to 20 feet deep. To keep people from falling into the hole, barriers have been put up around it.

This is not the first time a sinkhole like this has appeared on Ziauddin Ahmed Road. The problem keeps happening because the sewerage line hasn’t been fixed since the British left the country after it got its independence.

So, when a part of the sewage line breaks, the Water Sewerage Board only fixes that part. But then, the same thing happens again, and the problem keeps going in a circle.

On July 26, a sinkhole opened up on a road near the Chief Minister’s House in the Karachi neighborhood of Civil Lines. This happened because a 72-inch-wide sewer line that ran under the road broke because of higher water pressure.

The sinkhole appeared on Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, which goes from PIDC Chowk to Clifton in Karachi’s red zone.
