Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Another recording of PTI leaders supposedly talking about the alleged US cypher was leaked online on Friday, putting Imran Khan’s conspiracy theory to shame.
In the latest audio, it is said that then-Prime Minister Imran Khan, then-Minister Asad Umar, and then-Principal Secretary Azam Khan can be heard talking about the US cypher and how to use it to their advantage in a meeting.
In the first audio that got out on Wednesday, it was said that the PTI chairman was talking to Azam and telling him to mess around with the cypher. Azam was then heard telling Imran to hold a meeting with Qureshi and foreign secretary Sohail Mehmood to get this on record by making up the minutes of the meeting.
PTI didn’t deny what was said in the audio, and they said it proved their point that the ex-PM wasn’t told about the cable.
After audio clips of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other government leaders were made public, the latest audio clips of PTI leaders have made an already confusing political scene even more confusing.
Concerns have been raised about the PM House’s cyber security, and the National Security Committee (NSC) met this week to talk about it. During the meeting, spy chiefs pointed out the weak spots of the country’s highest office.
After the NSC meeting, the federal government made changes to the SOPs and made the PM House safer. A powerful committee has also been set up to look into what happened with the audio leak.
Transcript of the audio
Imran Khan: Shah Jee [Shah Mahmood Qureshi], we three [Imran Khan, Azam Khan, and you] and the foreign secretary [Sohail Mahmood] have to meet tomorrow. In the meeting, we’ll tell him to just sit quietly and write down the meeting’s minutes as they are. Azam Khan is telling us to write down the minutes and keep the photostat.
Azam Khan: This code came out on March 7, 8, or 9?
Another person in the meeting: It arrived on the eighth.
Imran Khan: The meeting happened on the 7th, though. We do not have to name any Americans, no matter what. So, please, no one should say the country in this case. All of you should pay close attention to this. The letter came from which country? I don’t want anyone to tell me that.
Asad Umar: Are you sure you want to call it a letter? This is not a letter because it is a record of the meeting.
Imran Khan: Whether it’s a meeting transcript or a letter, it says the same thing. No one will know what a transcript is. At your rallies, you have to say this.
First audio of a US conspiracy
In the first audio clip, it sounds like Imran says, “All we have to do is play on this. We don’t need to say who (any country). We only need to use the fact that this date was before as a starting point. The new thing will be that the letter will…” Then, a second voice, thought to be Azam’s, is heard telling Imran that they should meet to talk about the cypher.
“If you remember, the ambassador wrote at the end of that letter to send a demarche. Even if the demarche is not to be sent, I have thought a lot about it at night — you said they raised it, so I thought about how to cover all of this,” he says.
He says, “Let’s meet with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was the foreign minister when the PTI was in charge, and the foreign secretary. Shah Mahmood Qureshi will read the letter out loud, and what he says will be written down. Then, I will write down that the foreign secretary has done this.
“But the analysis of cypher will have to be done here. Azam replies, “We will do the analysis and turn it into minutes as we want so that it enters the official record,” and goes on to explain that the analysis will reach the conclusion that it is an indirect threat, which he labels as such since “it is termed a threat in diplomatic jargon.”
Azam is said to have said, “The minutes are in my hands, and we will write them.” Here, Imran is said to be asked who will be invited to the meeting: “Shah Mahmood, you, me and Sohail.”
The other person says, “Just these.” “We’ll do it tomorrow,” says the person who is thought to be Imran. Then, a voice that sounds like it belongs to Azam says, “If you follow this plan, things will become part of the record. Think about the fact that he is a representative of the state. When he reads it out loud, I’ll be able to copy it easily, and it will be written down that this happened.”
He also suggests that “you (supposedly Imran) call the foreign secretary so that it doesn’t stay political and becomes part of the bureaucratic record.” The man who is thought to be Imran responds by saying that an ambassador wrote the cypher, which suggests that it should already be part of the official record since it was written by an envoy.
“However, we don’t have a copy. “How did they get it out?” asks the person on the other end of the line. Also, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the leaked audio of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PTI Chairman Imran Khan will be checked out by a forensics team.
