Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Angelina Jolie arrived in Pakistan to help the people there who have been hurt by the terrible floods. Floods and heavy rains have affected 33 million people across the country, and one-third of the country is now underwater.
Ms. Jolie is going to see the situation for herself and learn more about it. She also wants to talk to the people who are directly affected to find out what they need and what can be done to stop this kind of suffering from happening again.
Ms. Jolie has already helped people who were hurt by the floods in Pakistan in 2010 and the earthquake in 2005. This time, she will visit the IRC’s emergency response operations and local groups that help displaced people, such as Afghan refugees.
Pakistan has only contributed 1% of the world’s carbon emissions, but its people have been taking care of Afghan refugees for more than 40 years, making it the second largest country for refugees.

Ms. Jolie will talk about how the people of Pakistan need help right away and how we need long-term solutions to the growing problems of climate change, human migration, and long-term insecurity.
Ms. Jolie will see for herself how countries like Pakistan have to pay the most for a crisis that they did not start.
The IRC hopes that her visit will shed light on this issue and get the international community, especially the countries that put out the most carbon, to act and help the countries that are suffering the most from the climate crisis right away.
IRC’s Pakistan Country Director, Shabnam Baloch, said:
“The climate crisis is destroying lives and futures in Pakistan, and women and children are suffering the most. Because of the damage to the economy caused by these floods, there will likely be less food and more violence against women and girls. We need help right away to help people who are in dire need, and we need long-term investments to stop climate change from ruining our futures as a whole. We expect more rain in the next few months, so we hope Angelina Jolie’s visit will wake people up and get them to act.”
Assessment done by the IRC shows:
people need food, water, shelter, and medical care right away. Everyone who was asked said that women and girls don’t have access to hygiene products for their periods. So far, the IRC has helped more than 50,000 women and girls in need. They have given them dignity and hygiene kits, which have things like toilet paper and menstrual supplies. Since early July, we have been helping flood victims in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh by giving them emergency supplies, food, medical care, and safe places to stay. So far, we have helped almost 950,000 people.
