Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Ministers have asked for an investigation to find out why 12 dams were “washed away” by monsoon rains.

The provincial ministers say that the Balochistan government is now ready to handle the next monsoon rain that is expected in the province.

At a news conference, Muhammad Khan Lehri, the irrigation minister, said that only 12 of the 1,020 dams built in the province were destroyed by the floods.

“We have asked for an investigation to find out what happened to those dams in the province,” Lehri said.

Syed Ehsan Shah, who is the Minister of Health, and Mir Ziaullah Langove, who is the Minister of Home Affairs, were also there.

The home minister said that the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) gave enough food for a month to more than 25,000 families in areas of the province that were flooded.

He said that rescue teams had moved thousands of families to safer places in Lasbela, Jhal Magsi, Qilla Abdullah, Kech, and other parts of Balochistan.

Langove said, “Despite having few resources, we helped everyone affected by the floods.” He also said that flash floods caused by heavy rain killed hundreds of people across the province. “More than 1,000 people have been hurt because of the floods.”

The health minister said that the province has lost a lot, both in terms of people and money, because of the rains that have come after 30 years. “Highways, small roads, and dams have been washed away by floods.”

The health minister said that the government set up free medical camps in different parts of Balochistan so that people hurt by the floods could get medical care. He said that the free medical camps had helped treat thousands of people.

Ehsan was very happy that the Pakistan Army had started rescue and aid operations in different parts of the province. He was saddened by the deaths of Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, Commander of the 12th Corps, and other military officers. He said that military officers gave their lives to help the people of Balochistan.

Langove said that flash floods caused by heavy rains cost Quetta and other parts of the province a lot of money. Different parts of the province were messed up by the rain.
