Complete trust in Pakistan’s nuclear security: ISPR

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): The top leaders of Pakistan’s army said on Tuesday that they have full faith in the country’s nuclear command and control structure and security measures to protect its strategic assets.

The military’s media affairs branch said after the 252nd Corps Commanders Conference, “Forum reposed full confidence in Pakistan’s robust nuclear command and control structure and security arrangements related to the country’s strategic assets.

“As a responsible country with nuclear weapons, Pakistan has taken all the steps needed to strengthen its nuclear security regime so that it is on par with the best practices in the rest of the world,” the meeting at the General Headquarters was told.

Last week, US President Joe Biden expressed doubts about Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal and said that the country could be one of the most dangerous nations in the world. The military leadership’s claim comes after Biden’s comments.

He said these things last Thursday at a reception for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He was talking about how the world’s political situation is changing.

The US president said that the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, was a man who knew what he wanted but had a “huge” number of problems.

“What should we do? How do we deal with that in light of what’s happening in Russia? And Pakistan, which I think is probably one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Biden had gone on to say, “Nuclear weapons that don’t work together.”

Pakistan was very upset by what Biden said, and the country’s acting foreign minister, Jauhar Saleem, asked the US ambassador in Islamabad, Donald Blome, to give a “strong demarche” about what Biden said.

The US envoy was told that Pakistan was upset and worried about the comments that didn’t make sense and weren’t based on facts.

In a statement released by the Foreign Office last Friday, it said, “It was made clear that Pakistan was a responsible nuclear state, and its excellent management of the nuclear programme and adherence to global standards and international best practises were well recognised, including by the IAEA.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on the other hand, said that US Vice President Joe Biden’s comments were factually wrong and misleading.

Pakistan has been the most responsible nuclear state in the past few decades. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, its nuclear program is run by a technically sound and foolproof command and control system.

On at least one occasion, US officials have tried to explain what Biden meant by what he said.

Last Friday, US Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the president thought the US needed to have a safe and prosperous Pakistan.

She also said that his words were nothing new because he had said similar things.

Recently, US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told Washington on Monday that the US was confident in Pakistan’s ability to keep its nuclear assets safe and secure. He said this right after Ambassador Masood Khan and Counselor Derek Chollet met with them.

The country’s security was one of the topics at the Corps Commanders’ Conference today.

“Participants took a thorough look at the current internal and external security situation and the operational readiness of the army,” said Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR).

It also said that the meeting was led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who said he was happy with how ready the formations were for operations and reaffirmed that the army was ready to defend the motherland against all threats.

The statement said, “The COA praised the formations’ operational readiness and continued efforts during flood relief duties.”

It also said that the Forum was told about how the army was helping the government with relief and rebuilding efforts in flood-affected areas, especially in Sindh and Balochistan, and about the situation after the flood.
