Web Desk (LTN NEWS): The army gave her an award because she had served her whole life. People know Dr. Jamali for her hard work, discipline, and dedication. Reports say that her patients and people in the medical field call her the “iron lady,” the “bullet lady,” and the “bomb-proof lady.”
According to her coworkers and friends, she always took the lead, whether it was helping people who had been hurt by bomb blasts, targeted killings, or pandemics.
“Karachi was once a very violent city, and it owes a lot to Dr. Seemin. She saved many lives in the JPMC’s emergency department by working hard during those hard times,” one of her colleagues said as she left her job as executive director of the JPMC after 30 years of service.
People have called her a “trendsetter” in public healthcare. In 1988, she became a medical officer at JPMC. Before that, she had studied medicine in Nawabshah and worked as a house doctor at Civil Hospital Karachi.
In 1993, she went to Thailand to get a master’s degree in public health management (MPHM). In 1995, she was in charge of the emergency room at JPMC.
Later, she was given a scholarship to go to the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore, US, to do a post-doctoral fellowship in public health policy and injury prevention.
In 2010, Dr. Jamali became a co-executive director of the hospital. After six years, he became the hospital’s executive director.
She was on duty when a bomb went off outside the hospital doors in 2010, hurting many people, including her. This tragedy made her want to turn the emergency room into a modern unit with the help of both the public and private sectors.
She was honored and given many national and international awards during her services, such as the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and the Women Achievement Awards.
A report said that Dr. Jamali said, “It was very hard to prove yourself in the world of men. Men’s dislike of me has been my biggest problem, even though many people liked me. I got what I wanted because I treated my job like a labor of love and passion.”
