Web Desk (LTN NEWS): The Attorney-General of Pakistan (AGP) decided to file a review petition against the acquittal of Shahrukh Jatoi, who was the main suspect in the high-profile murder case of Shahzeb Khan. This is a big deal.
In this case, the AGP’s Office worked on a draught letter to send to the highest court on Tuesday.
The letter said, “The opinion of the Attorney-Office General was not asked for before Jatoi was set free.” It said important constitutional decisions should not be made without talking to the AGP’s Office first.
The letter also said that Jibran Nasir and other activists went to the SC to complain about a Sindh High Court (SHC) ruling that set aside the death penalty for Jatoi and others convicted in the murder case. The AGP’s Office had already said that the case was related to terrorism and that the SHC’s decision violated the SC’s order.

In the letter, the AGP’s office also said that the Supreme Court’s decision to let Jatoi go free was different from other court decisions about the crime of terrorism.
So, the case should be looked at again in light of the parts of compromise, fasad-fil-arz, and other things.
In 2013, an Anti-Terrorism Court gave death sentences to Jatoi and Siraj Talpur for killing Shahzeb. Sajjad Ali Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were given life sentences.
But on November 28, 2017, the murder case took a dramatic turn when the SHC ordered a new trial, overturning the ATC’s decision to give the convicts the death penalty and giving them life sentences instead.
In its order, SHC said that an act of revenge because of a personal grudge was not the same as terrorism. Then, they went to the Supreme Court to try to get the sentences changed.
On December 23, 2017, Jatoi, the son of a powerful feudal lord, and other people accused of killing Shahzeb were released on bail after the father of the person who was killed signed an affidavit in support of the bail application.
