Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Friday, Pakistan called the Indian Charge d’ Affaires (Cd’ A) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad and made a strong demand about Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik’s rapidly worsening health.
“A letter from Yasin Malik’s wife, Ms. Mushaal Hussein Mullick, to the Indian Prime Minister asking for her husband’s immediate release from prison because of his poor health, which got worse when he decided to go on a hunger strike earlier this month, was also given to the Cd’A,” said a statement from the Foreign Office here.
Pakistan told the Indian diplomat that they were very upset about the Indian government’s latest move, which was to put Yasin Malik in two more fake cases based on events that happened at least 30 years ago.
Even though Mr. Malik has asked many times, he has been denied his legal right to appear in person and be cross-examined in the ongoing trials.
The Foreign Office said that Yasin Malik, who was serving a life sentence in Delhi’s notorious Tihar jail after a fake trial in an Indian court, was very saddened by the huge injustice.
The statement also said that Mr. Yasin Malik went on a hunger strike until he died on July 22, 2022, because he had no legal options left.
It was pointed out that Yasin Malik’s physical, mental, and emotional health has been severely hurt by his long-term illegal imprisonment, involvement in fake cases, inhuman torture at the hands of the Indian occupation forces, and the worst kinds of political victimization.
Alarmingly, the ongoing hunger strike has made things so bad that he is now getting fluids through an IV because his life is in danger.
“Given the urgency of the situation and Yasin Malik’s rapidly worsening health, the Indian government has been strongly asked to give him immediate medical care, let him out of jail right away, overturn his false conviction on false charges, and drop all the other false cases that have been made up around him,” the statement said.
