Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Fawad Chaudhry, Party Leader of the PTI, have challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) show-cause notice in the contempt case against Khan, Chaudhry, and Asad Umar.

Notices were sent to the three people because they insulted the ECP and its head, Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Faisal Chaudhry fought the ECP’s notices in the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court. He was Khan and Fawad’s lawyer.

In their application, the head of the PTI and the former minister said that, unlike the courts, the ECP doesn’t have the power to do anything about contempt. In addition, the application said that the Constitution says that judicial power can’t be given to administrative departments.

The petition says that the ECP’s “show-cause notices” go against the Constitution and the law, and that the ECP member from Sindh is the judge in a contempt case against himself.

Show-cause notices from ECP to be heard

On the other hand, the petition will be heard in the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court, and Khan and Fawad’s application will be heard by Justice Jawad Hassan tomorrow (Wednesday).

Note that the ECP has sent notices to the head of the PTI and two of his party members, Fawad and Asad. They were all asked to come back to the commission on September 27 because they insulted the ECP and CEC.

According to the notice, Khan insulted the ECP at one of his political meetings on July 18, and he also insulted the CEC on July 21, and July 27.
