Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Friday, the Islamabad police denied that Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI and the former prime minister, would no longer have security.
They also said that 77 police officers, led by an SP, were sent to the PTI leader’s home in Bani Gala to protect him. 77 police officers from Islamabad and eight from G-B were sent to protect the ex-PM.
If needed, police from other provinces could also be called to help the ex-prime minister, the police said.
They also said that a former prime minister usually gets five police officers, but in Imran’s case, they made an exception and gave him 77 police officers.
They also said that Gilgit-Baltistan sent eight police officers to protect Imran.
Earlier, it was said that the interior ministry had told the home secretaries and police chiefs of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and G-B to take down the security at Imran’s home.
Both governments were reportedly told that the Centre had a way to bring police officers from other parts of the country to Islamabad.
It was said to have said that this step could only be taken by the federal government.
The interior ministry was said to have said that having police officers outside the Bani Gala home was “illegal.”
As suggested by the Threat Assessment Committee of the interior ministry, an urgent official letter was sent to the home secretaries and IGPs of the two governments.
They were supposedly told that based on their own decisions, they were not allowed to do something like that in Islamabad Capital Territory.
When the federal government needs help from police from the provinces, they have to go to Islamabad and do their jobs under the commanding officer of the Islamabad police.
So, there is a chance that the federal and provincial police will fight with each other.
The home secretaries and IGPs of the two governments might get in trouble if they don’t follow the rules and don’t pay attention to what the Threat Assessment Committee of the interior ministry says.
Imran was given “foolproof security” by the interior ministry in May of this year. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to do this because there were rumors that Imran’s life was in danger.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry’s spokesperson said that at least 94 security staff, including 22 police officers from Islamabad, had been sent to Bani Gala.
In the same way, 36 police officers from K-P and 6 police officers from G-B were sent to protect the former premier.
Askari and SMS, private security companies, had also put 35 security guards at Imran’s home to keep it safe.
