On Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi, a key PTI ally, distanced himself from Shahbaz Gill’s controversial comments, which were said to be meant to stir up hatred within the military.
Pervez Elahi told today that the PTI’s leaders, including Imran Khan, should not stand behind Gill’s anti-state comments.
He said, “Khan’s orders are clear: anyone who speaks against the army is not a Pakistani.”
“The leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaf should definitely distance themselves from what Shahbaz Gill said. Even I said something against it, “the head of government said.
Today, a court in Islamabad gave the police two days to take the PTI leader into custody. Gill told reporters that he is not “ashamed” of what he said before he was brought before the court.
Elahi claims that he scolded Gill
Elahi also said that he yelled at Gill about his statement, asking him how he thought he could tell PTI’s story.
“These are the things we depend on. You said something bad about the Pakistan Army. Are you an idiot?” Elahi said, telling Gill about what he had been talking about.
The Chief Minister of Punjab said that Gill’s statement hurt the PTI and its allies more than it helped them.
Collaboration with the Centre
Moving on, Elahi said that there would still be political differences, but when it came to what was best for the country, there would be no trouble between the Centre and the provincial government.
Elahi also said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif sent the Punjab Inspector-General of Police Faisal Shahkar and the province’s chief secretary to check out the flood-hit areas before he went there himself.
“I told them that we will do whatever the prime minister tells us to do,” he said.
Elahi said that even though the IG and chief secretary of Punjab were chosen on “Shehbaz’s orders,” he welcomed them with open arms.
“The chief secretary is leaving for some other reason,” Elahi said, denying that he had done anything to mess up the work of the government.
