Nobel Prize laureate and activist Malala Yousafzai attended the Commonwealth Games inauguration ceremony Friday and outlined the importance of girls’ education during her address.

Malala Yousafzai represented Pakistan and highlighted the importance of girls’ education in Pakistan during the ceremony through a documentary film.

“The young athletes competing at the Games are a reminder that every child deserves the chance to reach her full potential and pursue her wildest dreams,” she said.

In her speech, Malala said that it was an honor to be there and talked about how important it is for girls to go to school.
Over the course of 11 days in the English Midlands, athletes from 72 countries and territories will compete in 19 sports for medals.
The 103 people from Pakistan who are going to the games are athletes, coaches, and officials. At these games, as many as 68 Pakistani athletes will compete in 12 different sports. Of these, 27 are women, and 15 of them are on the women’s cricket team.
Athletes will take part in games like men’s hockey, women’s T20 cricket, swimming, athletics, badminton, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, squash, gymnastics, table tennis, and women’s T20 cricket.
