NEPRA raises power rates by Rs7.91/unit

NEPRA

WebDesk (Islamabad): With the current increase, the cost of electricity increased from Rs16.91 to Rs24.8 per unit.

The ruling would be applicable with the government notification, according to the Nepra release. As a result, the average tariff rise would take effect at a rate of Rs3.50 per unit during the current billing cycle, then at the second rate of Rs3.50 per unit for the August-September billing cycle, and finally at a final rate of 91 paise per unit for October. The pricing would be imposed uniformly throughout the nation, including K-Electric.

Nepra has informed the federal government of the hike. According to a statement, the increased tariffs will take effect upon the government’s official notice.

The increase in tariffs has been justified by the weakening of the rupee and increased oil prices on the global market.

The national average tariff for the fiscal year 2022–2023 has been set by Nepra at Rs24.82 per unit, an increase of Rs7.91 per unit over the previous average tariff, according to the announcement.

The statement went on to say that the authority bases the new tariff on the revenue generated by various distribution companies as well as distribution and transmission losses.

According to LTN News sources, “this hike will not be applicable to the clients consuming 200 or fewer electrical units monthly.”
